There's something about Eden Gardens. When KKR play here, you just feel like something special could happen. And honestly? They need something special right now.
Nobody saw this coming. KKR lost their first six games. Six in a row. Everyone wrote them off. And then, out of nowhere, they won five of their next six. Just like that, they're back in the playoff picture. Crazy, right?
Now it's Wednesday. Mumbai Indians are in town. Win, and KKR are still alive. Lose, and it's pretty much goodbye.
Mumbai? They're already out of the playoffs. That actually makes them scary. Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are back. They've got no pressure. Nothing to lose. Oh, and they've beaten KKR 25 times in 36 meetings. Yeah. That record will make any Kolkata fan a little nervous.
How KKR Turned It Around
The first six games were rough to watch. But something changed.
Take Finn Allen. Got dropped early. Came back. Since then? 240 runs at a strike rate of 233. Fireworks every time he walks out.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi also got dropped. Also came back. Averaging 71 with 213 runs. Rock solid.
Cameron Green was all over the place at the start—56 runs in five innings, batting at three different spots. Then they stuck him at No. 4. Since then? 260 runs at a strike rate of 152.
These three went from being problems to being the reason KKR still has a heartbeat. They found their mojo late, but just in time to make this game matter.
The One Worry: Pathirana's Hamstring
Here's the scary part. Matheesha Pathirana pulled up with a hamstring problem just eight balls into his first game for KKR three days ago. Anukul Roy said they're still checking on him.
If he can't play, Blessing Muzarabani comes in. He hasn't played a game since April 2. That's a big change to the bowling attack at the worst possible time.
Narine and Chakaravarthy are still there—Varun's been bowling through a foot injury himself. But yeah, the bowling isn't quite where they'd want it to be right now.
Mumbai Are Relaxed, Dangerous, and Own This Rivalry
Let's just say it. Mumbai have won 25 out of 36 against KKR. Twenty-five. Earlier this season, they chased down 221 against them.
They're eliminated. No pressure. But they've got Hardik and SKY back. Ryan Rickelton has been amazing—one of only three batters this season with 400+ runs, an average over 40, and a strike rate over 180. Pair him with Rohit at the top? That's a headache for any bowling attack.
There's talk of AM Ghazanfar coming back as a second spinner on an Eden pitch that's always helped spin. And then there's Bumrah.
What's Going On With Bumrah?
Jasprit Bumrah has three wickets this season. Three. In twelve innings.
Let that sink in.
From 2016 to 2025, he never finished a season with fewer than 15 wickets. Now he has three. It just doesn't make sense. But Eden Gardens has always been a ground where he finds something extra. Don't be surprised if he has a big night tomorrow.
The Battle That Could Decide Everything
Sunil Narine vs Rohit Sharma. 180 balls. 191 runs. Ten wickets.
That's not just a match-up. That's a story. Both teams know exactly what's riding on that contest. And on a night like this, with everything on the line, that battle might just be the game.
