First Innings: GT Batting – A Firework Show from Start to Finish
Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. It looked like a good decision on paper. But on the field? It was a nightmare.
The Ahmedabad pitch had pace and bounce, and GT's openers made full use of it.
Shubman Gill: The Rocket at the Top
Shubman Gill came out with intent. He wasn't here to play safe. He smashed boundaries at will and reached his half-century in just 23 balls. Yes, 23 balls. That's the kind of start every team dreams of.
He looked set for a big score but fell for 64. By then, the damage was already done. GT were well past 100, and the run rate was already above 10.
Sai Sudharsan: The Quiet Assassin
While Gill was going berserk, Sai Sudharsan played the perfect second fiddle. He took his time early run-a-ball for his first 22 deliveries and then shifted gears after Gill's wicket.
He scored 84 off 53 balls with elegant strokes all around the ground. This was his fifth consecutive IPL fifty a feat achieved only by Virender Sehwag, David Warner, and Jos Buttler before him.
With this knock, Sudharsan also took back the Orange Cap from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He is now the leading run-scorer of IPL 2026.
Jos Buttler: The Finisher
After Gill's dismissal, Jos Buttler walked in. And he didn't take any time to settle.
He smashed 57 not out off just 27 balls. He especially targeted Noor Ahmad, hitting him deep into the stands. His innings included massive sixes and clever boundaries.
Thanks to these three heroes, GT posted a mammoth 229 for 4 in their 20 overs.
CSK Bowling: One Bright Spot in a Dark Night
To be honest, CSK's bowling had a tough night. Gurjapneet Singh was the only bowler who looked decent he finished with 4-0-31-0. He mixed his cutters with wide yorkers and kept things tight.
But the others struggled badly.
Anshul Kamboj went for 56 runs in his 4 overs. He also ended up conceding the most sixes in a single IPL season a record no bowler wants.
Second Innings: CSK Chase – Over Before It Even Started
Chasing 230 was always going to be tough. But Mohammed Siraj made sure it became impossible.
Siraj's Powerplay Magic
Siraj struck with the very first ball of the innings. Sanju Samson, who had earlier left the field with a finger injury, nicked an away-swinger and was gone for a golden duck.
But Siraj wasn't finished.
In his next over, he removed CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad with a length ball that ducked back in and crashed into the stumps.
Next ball? Another wicket. Urvil Patel top-edged a flick straight into the hands of Prasidh Krishna at deep backward square leg.
Two wickets in two balls. The crowd went silent.
CSK's Top Order Crumbles
CSK's top five were back in the dressing room within 8 overs. The scoreboard read 72 for 5. The match was almost over.
Shivam Dube: One-Man Army
Then came Shivam Dube.
Having endured a poor season so far, Dube suddenly found his rhythm. He smashed left-arm seamer Arshad Khan for 6, 4, 4 in one over that went for 19 runs.
Then he took on Jason Holder. He launched a hard-length delivery over long-on for six. When Holder went full, Dube used his long levers to slice the ball behind square.
In just two overs (overs 8 and 9), CSK added 37 runs. The crowd started believing again. Could Dube pull off a miracle?
Rashid Khan: The Game Changer
Then Rashid Khan happened.
Dube launched him over deep midwicket for a six. The very next ball, Dube tried to repeat it. But this time, Shubman Gill, running back from cover, pulled off a stunning catch.
Dube was gone for 47 off just 17 balls. The hope died with him.
The Lower Order Collapse
After Dube's dismissal, CSK lost their last four wickets in the next three overs.
Rashid Khan finished with brilliant figures of 3 for 18. Kagiso Rabada took 3 for 32. Mohammed Siraj ended with 3 for 26.
CSK were bowled out for just 140 in the 14th over.
GT won by 89 runs their biggest win in terms of runs in IPL history. Three of their biggest wins by runs have now come in their last four games.

Final Thought
GT didn't just win. They made a statement.
Their batting fired. Their bowling hunted in packs. Their fielding was sharp.
CSK fought hard in patches especially Dube's cameo but never really looked like winning. Injuries, inexperience, and a brutal powerplay bowling performance from Siraj ended their campaign.
As Gaikwad said, this is a young team in transition. The future might still be bright. Just not this year.
For GT? They look ready for the trophy.
