IPL: Double Injury Blow for Mumbai Indians Before Kolkata Clash

Just when you thought Mumbai Indians couldn't have more bad luck this season, here's another one.

The franchise confirmed on Tuesday that two of their players won't play again in IPL 2026. Both are ruled out due to injuries. Replacements will be named soon, but honestly, this has been that kind of season for MI—injuries, instability, and an early exit that no one saw coming for a five-time champion.

Quinton de Kock: Gone After Just Three Games

Remember that innings? First outing for MI, and Quinton de Kock smashed 112 not out against Punjab Kings. Not out. On debut for the franchise. He became the first overseas player to hit IPL centuries for three different teams. That's special.

But then came the bad news.

He picked up a tendon injury in his left wrist just before MI's game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 29. Didn't even get to play that one.

His last game was against Chennai Super Kings on April 23—just 7 off 10. That's not how you want a season to end. Three matches. One incredible hundred. And then done.

Raj Bawa: A Painfully Timed Injury

This one stings even more because of when it happened.

Raj Angad Bawa, the 23-year-old all-rounder from Chandigarh, suffered a ligament tear in his right thumb during MI's match against Punjab Kings on May 14. You might remember that game—Tilak Varma hit a final-ball six to seal a stunning win. Pure joy. But in that same game, Bawa got hurt.

He played only three matches this season. Scored 16 runs in his only innings. Took two wickets. Nothing flashy, but he was just starting to find his feet.

Now he's out. Both players are recovering at home with the MI medical team looking after them.

What This Means for the Kolkata Game

Honestly? Not much in terms of the playing XI—both were already out or close to it. But it's yet another reminder of how this season has unraveled for Mumbai.

They come to Eden Gardens already eliminated. No pressure. But also no de Kock. No Bawa. Just a team trying to finish on a high note and spoil KKR's playoff dream.
