Honoured to have gate named after me: Virender Sehwag

DDCA inaugurated  Sehwag Gate at the Feroz Shah Kotla  but the occasion was tarnished because the DDCA got the cricket legend’s Test statistics wrong. The first T20 between India vs New Zealand will be played at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium.

Amid all the euphoria, the DDCA failed to proof-read Sehwag’s Test statistics displayed on a metal plate embedded on the iron gate. The plate said Virender Sehwag is the ‘Only Indian to score a Triple Century in Tests’.

Normally quick to react on flaws, Sehwag was quite gracious, choosing not to blow up the blunder. The former Test batsman Sehwag said “it’s an honour to have a gate named after him at the Kotla,” the ground where he started his cricketing journey.

The Gate No.3 of the stadium was dedicated to the star batsman.

Madan Lal, head of the DDCA cricket affairs committee, hailed Virender Sehwag's contribution to Indian cricket.

"Sehwag changed the way the game was played in India. Earlier India used to score 240-250 runs in a day, but after Sehwag came 350-360 became possible. Sehwag was a major reason why India won so many matches," he said.
