Mathews has been in and out of the action for last 12 months
Former Srilankan Captain Angelo Mathews has been left out of the AbuDhabi test owing to a torn calf muscle. News comes at a time when the side is already sweating over the fitness of its crucial members. With Gunaratne, Kapugerdera, Tharanga, Perara, Gunathalika and Herath already trying to attain full fittness, addition of Mathews to the group won't serve goods to Srilanka who are already under the shades of whitewashes, most recently by India, who completed a tour sweep by winning all matches across three formats.Meanwhile, the managment and coaching staff has been quite unstable with Graham Ford ( coach), Mathews (captain),
Jayasuriya ( Chairman Of Selectors) and having 6 captains in the last series.
Mathews has been in and out of the show for quite sometime now. He got injured during Australia's tour of Srilanka last year with torn calf and could not complete the series after fourth ODI. He missed the Zimbabve tour and was expected to rerurn for Bangladesh T20s but made a comeback during SouthAfrica's tour but again torn his calf and returned after a match winning knock in first T20. He missed Australia's tour and returned in the Champions Trophy but again finds himself on the sidelines. He has a grade-1 tear in the calf , which he sustained in during practice camp.
The AbuDhabi test will begin on 28th September in Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
